Let's go fly a kite!

This last weekend we headed down to Point Pleasant Park in the esteemed South End of Halifax for a leisurely afternoon stroll but we were met with so much more than that. Eyelevel Gallery was having their "Public Performance Series". Four local artists were taking part in the series: Allison Comrie, Barbara Lounder, Andrew Maize and Will Vandermeulen.
Andrew created 160 kites (one for each fallen soldier in Afghanistan since 2002) out of completely recycled products and invited the public to participate in flying these kites. He wanted patrons of the park to interact when they normally wouldn't.

We had so much fun flying the kites. Our experience at the park that day was 100 x better because of Andrew. It was such an interactive experience and it was so neat to see so much life and color in the park. We really hope Halifax takes this new direction of embracing the arts and having more installation pieces around the city.
